I disagree with you that it has something to do with an older version. I carefully and fully read your original post. Filesharing from other machines works using the new name.ģ is impossible for the reason listed above.
The machine is properly named, and the system sees that correctly. The name that Retrospect Client takes is also an old name, again telling me it is using an existing preference file, and not creating a new file.ġ and 2 both show the Arch_01 name. When I reinstall I am not given the opportunity to set the password because the client already has it (similar to what happens when you don't throw away the preference/configuration files before reinstalling). I don't know the full history of this machine, and assume that some previous version of Retrospect Client was installed at some point on the machine, and that somehow that user info is being imported/used on a reinstall. I have done that many times in the past and have never had it fail me before.

Normally throwing away the files I listed above allows one to install cleanly (the big tip off to that is that the installer asks for the password when you set it up). I tried using the script to reset the password, but that did not help. Keeping the existing install on the machine was not an option. The client software needed to be reinstalled because I couldn't log in to the client from the server initially-the password that was originally set up was unknown. Resetting the password is my ultimate goal. I cannot connect to the client machine to begin with because I cannot log in (though I do see the machine in the network client browser from within Retrospect Server). I think you are confusing the symptom with what I am trying to accomplish.
